A conversation with Esther G.Belin

Esther Belin is an award-winning Diné (Navajo) poet who has gained national acclaim for her two books, From the Belly of My Beauty (1999) and On Cartography (2017). She is one of the most talented Diné poets whose talents were recognized by awarding her the prestigious Before Columbus Foundation, American book Award for her first book. In this book she confronts and challenges the 1956 Federal Indian Relocation Act which took over 30,000 reservation Indians off their homeland and placed them in larger cities with the goal to have them learn vocational skills and assimilate into the larger society. This was just one of the U.S. Government’s appalling plans to solve the “Indian Problem.” As a second-generation product of relocation, Esther writes of the devastating consequences of removing people from their homeland with the accompanying loss of identity, language, and culture. Her most recently published book, On Cartography, maps her journey back to her homeland in the Southwest where she is closer to her Diné people than she was in Los Angeles, California where she grew up. Her book is filled with maps and reflections on belonging, and she invites the reader to join her on her journey by including seven assignments for us to complete. This book is the work of an accomplished poet.

In 1986, an explosion occurred at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, resulting in almost 116,000 people evacuating from the exclusion zone. Among them were also residents of the city of Pripyat, whose population at that time was about 45 thousand people. There was a need for additional housing for settlers. At one time, the reason for the construction of the Pripyat was the need to placement of employees the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Slavutych was founded for the same personnel, but to protect it from the harmful effects of radiation, since after the explosion on the fourth power unit the city of Pripyat became unfit for life. However, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant continued to produce electricity in three blocks. The station stopped working in 2000 only. Thus, Slavutych experienced another "catastrophe" - closure of the nuclear power plant.

Psycholinguistics or psychology of language is the study of the interrelation between linguistic factors and psychological aspects. Psycholinguistics studies the psychological and neurological factors that enable human to acquire, use and understand language. Psycholinguistics mainly concern with the use of psychological / scientific / experimental methods to study language acquisition, production and processing. In this study is to reveal theoretical information about psycholinguistics.
A win-win condition in translating skills acquisition

Should translation disappear in business or international tourism with English becoming the global international language of communication, the need of professional translators will always remain to render the regulatory documents or international legal instruments. For instance, in Ukraine, the fast process of European integration when joining the EU leads to a major need of translating the regulatory instruments. It calls for the better quality of the translated texts, translations being as accurate as possible to the original, as well as for the text clarity. It also demands accountability, and ethical approach. This research reflects on the types of conventional translating skills, namely accuracy, accountability, persuasion, credibility behind the translating and interpreting process of legal regulatory instruments, as well as concentrating on aspects and issues of win-win condition in acquiring bilingual translating skills in the era of machine translation growth. However, it has to be emphasized that a fluent bilingual professional has to be also good at persuading listeners to trust him or her, creating neural pathways, preparing carefully for the event, and regularly refining these skills. This research focuses on how these skills (trust, persuasion, ethics) can be applied and what new issues in training translator’s skills and competences for future arise.
A “makeup” of foreign language acquisition in the ХХІ century

This article attempts to focus on a set of the 21st century basic building blocks needed for education process in regard to the second language acquisition which have been measured, supported by quality research, that illustrate a broad range of assessment approaches done by leading scientists in the field of education in the last years and subject to improvement through teacher actions. The article is intended to acquaint all those who are engaged in the field of education with the current state of 21st century competencies assessment, and offer some guidance to help educators compare measures and implement an assessment system. It discusses the issues of language policy that take place nowadays.
ABILITY TO ADAPT AS ATC APTITUDE CRITERION

The article zeroes in on the issue of ATC adaptiveness to professional activity in the given conditions. The framework of personal adaptation potential of ATC specialists is discussed. The results of ATC students' personal adaptation assessment are offered, and connections between the adaptability and character, emotion and behaviour of the students are highlighted.
About the Stylistic Role of one Particle in Georgian Translation

The represented article discusses the peculiarities of the particle of reported speech in Georgian meutxari ‘I have told him (her) that’ and its stylistic manner of usage in Georgian translations. The represented form of speech is not perceived as part of the literary Georgian language but is evidenced in everyday speech. In translated literary works it is used as a manner of speech to carry the words of the person who speaks. The particle represents the speech of the talker himself, in the situation called “a dialogue in the dialogue,” when someone is telling a dialogue to the third person. Daniel Keyes’ novel “Flowers for Algernon” is taken for the example of this case; it describes the manner of speaking and writing of the story. The given form meutkhari can be qualified as a particle basing on the fact that the Georgian particle -metki is of analogic origin. This example shows vivid process of degramaticalisation of the conjugated form in Georgian
