Abstract

The paper draws attention to the issue of the translationof proper names. The purpose of this article is to find and define the reasonable methods of translating proper names found in articles on art theory and history. This article makes an attempt to systematize typical mistakes, which may cause a poor comprehension by an English-speaking reader, and suggests a strategy for their avoidance. The authors specified several groups of most frequently used proper names, which cause difficulties, such as anthroponyms, toponyms, biblionyms, chrononyms, artionyms, imageonyms. The article also provides recommended equivalents of translation for problematic cases.
