dc.description.abstractThe present research is devoted to the study of politeness formulae conveying the characters’ social background and origin in Charles Dickens’ novel “Hard Times” and in its Russian translation. The goal of the research is to determine the features that characterise the upper-class, middle-class, and lower-class sociolects in the original novel and to compare them to the features found in the translation.uk_UA
