Переклад умовних речень класичного та сучасного романів: порівняльний аспект

Abstract

Стаття присвячена дослідженню умовних речень класичного та сучасного англійського романів та визначенню особливостей перекладу та труднощів, які постають перед перекладачами під час відтворення англійських умовних речень українською мовою. Насамперед під час перекладу англійських умовних речень українською мовою перекладач повинен усвідомити, що він має справу саме з умовною конструкцією, а не з іншими складними чи навіть простими за своєю структурою реченнями, оскільки умовне речення не завжди вводиться у повідомлення за допомогою сполучника if, який подеколи взагалі опускається. Детальне заглиблення в оригінал дозволяє відчути семантичні відтінки умовності окремих речень, позаяк саме правильне розуміння матеріалу є визначальним кроком на шляху до адекватного перекладу. Подібне граматичне оформлення англійських та українських умовних конструкцій нульового типу та І типу значно полегшує процес перекладу. Уваги заслуговує переклад умовних речень ІІ і ІІІ типу, які представляють нереальну умову, а також речень змішаного типу. Такі умовні конструкції можуть організовуватися за двома моделями: нереальна умова в минулому та її можливий теперішній наслідок або нереальна теперішня умова та її імовірний наслідок у минулому. Правильне розуміння моделі умовного речення змішаного типу дозволить перекладачеві правильно розпізнати семантику повідомлення та адекватно її відтворити в перекладі. Однією з особливостей перекладу англійських умовних речень українською мовою є засоби безпосереднього відтворення категорії умовності. Для англійських умовних речень не є обов’язковою наявність сполучників чи конекторів умовності. На противагу їм українські умовні речення майже завжди містять засоби вербалізації категорії умовності. Труднощі під час перекладу також можуть викликати речення, що не містять формальних маркерів умовності, але виражають умовність дії за рахунок контексту. До таких речень належать англійські умовні конструкції з безсполучниковим типом зв’язку, які в українській мові обов’язково повинні відтворюватися. Розмовний характер тексту сучасного роману вводить деякі обмеження як на вживання умовних речень в оригіналі, так і на їх відтворення в перекладі.

The article is devoted to the research of conditional sentences of classical and modern English novels as well as the definition of translating peculiarities and difficulties that translators face during the translation of English conditional sentences into Ukrainian. First of all, when translating English conditional sentences into Ukrainian, the translator must realize that he is dealing with a conditional construction and not with other complex or even simple sentences. Because the conditional sentence is not always entered into the message by the if connector, which is sometimes omitted altogether. A deep dive into the original allows one to feel the semantic connotations of the conditionality of individual sentences, since the correct understanding of the translation material is a decisive step on the way to an adequate translation. Similar grammatic structure of English and Ukrainian conditional sentences of Type 0 and Type 1 simplifies significantly the process of translation. Translation of the 2 and the 3 Types that represent unreal condition, as well as mixed Type sentences are especially noteworthy. These conditional sentences can be organized in accordance with two models: unreal condition in the past and its possible present consequence or unreal present condition and its possible past consequence. The correct understanding of the conditional sentence model of mixed Type enables the translator to recognize the semantics of the message accurately and to give it adequate translation. One of the peculiarities of English conditional sentences’ translation into Ukrainian is the means of direct translation of the category of conditionality. The research allows to conclude the presence of conjunctions and linking words of conditionality is not obligatory. As opposed, Ukrainian conditional sentences almost always have the means of verbalization of the conditionality category. Sentences that do not have formal marks of conditionality but express the conditionality of the action by means of context can constitute difficulties during translation. These sentences include asyndeton English conditional constructions that have to be translated in the Ukrainian language. The colloquial character of the text of modern novel imposes some restrictions on both the use of conditional sentences in the original and their translation.
