The article focuses on theoretical analysis of investigations dealing with distinguishing of the main movie translating concepts (single picture, movie dialog, editorial script, movie text, film, and movie discourse) considering art, linguistic and audience approaches. It emphasizes the necessity of taking into account the movie text’s communicative orientation, its semiotic and linguistic codes systems. The article underlines the direct contact between linguistic and extra linguistic factors in movie discourse, giving the dominance to the latter ones in an attempt to define this concept from the point of view of translation theory and practice. The film as opposed to the movie text covers innumerable quantity of both verbal and non-verbal components, while the movie text is mostly concentrated on language and considers the speech elements: intonation and pauses to be secondary. The movie dialog in its turn is based on oral- and written-verbal film components alike and reveals characteristics of general text and specific text categories. The article highlights controversial aspects which further research and detailed elaboration result in improvement of the movie translations level in Ukraine, the development of Ukrainian science and culture.uk_UA
