Abstract
The article focuses on the findings of the Russian Formalist organization
OPOIAZ in relation to the further development of translation studies as a
discipline in the Soviet Union and beyond. OPOIAZ‘s studies of form and
function of literary works influenced the contemporary translation practice,
as well as gave substantial material for the research of such globally
renowned scholars as Roman Jakobson and Andrei Fedorov, who is now
recognized as the founder of the Soviet translation studies. Despite the
political pressures against formalism, the legacy of OPOIAZ continued to
inspire further generations of scholars, contributing to the emerging
discipline of translation studies.
