| Abstract: | The article is devoted to the consideration of the place and role of humor in such political genres as public speaking, political interview, and political joke. The statements of well-known British and American political figures and the importance of using irony and humor to achieve successful influence on the audience are analyzed. The article offers an analysis of the quotations of UK Prime Ministers Arthur Wellesley and Winston Churchill and US presidents Ronald Reagan and George Walker Bush. The results obtained can be used as part of the study of political discourse and its translation, for the development of the theory and practice of intercultural communication. |
